Ardabil

Ardabil city is the capital of Ardabil province located nearly in the northwest of Iran. The majority of the people in the city have Azerbaijani language as their mother tongue. Ardabil is traditionally known for its silk and carpet trade therefore Ardabil rugs and carpets are renowned in the world. The city is located on an open plain 1,500 meters above sea level and the east of mount Sabalan (4,811 m).

Shrine of Sheikh Safi-ad-din Ardabili
This is the tomb of Sheikh Safi-ad-din Ardabili which has been registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010. Sheikh Safi who was a super leader of an Islamic Sufi System and the ancestor of Safavi Kings was born in the fourteenth century in Ardabil. He had many followers who were following his cult.

Shorabil Lake
The lake is inside the city of Ardabil. It is the largest lake in Iran within a city. And also it is one of the most important natural attractions of Ardabil. The surface of the lake is 640,000 m², and is covered with a thin white layer of minerals which are useful in healing skin diseases. Beside the lake, a vacation park is established that is a good place for leisure.

 

Ardabil Anthropology Museum
The anthropology museum of Ardabil presents the richness of Iranian art, architecture, and history. It was called Agha-Naghi Bathhouse befor Safavid Dynasty. The house was built during Ilkhanate Period in the 13th century. It was made by Zahir-ul-Islam and some other sections were added to the bath 200 years later. The museum displays sculptures of local costumers that have traditional clothes of the local people. People of the area were so sensitive to cleanness which can be the reason why this building was so important.
